Candy Sight Words

A recent homework assignment from kindergarten had us looking for creative ways to explore sight words (a short list of words Malcolm is learning to recognize on sight, rather than sound out) in a three dimensional way -- that is build the letters out of materials he can manipulate with his hands. After much brainstorming, Malcolm elected to build sight words out of Pull'N'Peel Twizzlers, a red licorice candy. Any sight words he spelled correctly, he got to eat. (No repeats!) Without coaching, he built the words: I, a, like, can, do, said, is, in, on, and, do. He then put "I" and "Like" together, and then copied a new word from the packaging . . . .
